WELCOME TO PORTLAND!
Some friendly notes about visiting…
GETTING HERE — USE THE TRAIN! Amtrak’s DownEaster service conveniently links Boston and numerous points south and comes into Portland–however the station is not downtown, so connecting car or bus service may be necessary. Buses and taxis can be found at the train station (Portland Transportation Center).
ACCOMODATION: Portland’s downtown has plenty of hotel options, including Holiday Inn By the Bay, the Eastland Hotel, Portland Regency, Hilton Garden Inn and the Portland Hyatt Old Port. Portland also usually has plenty of sublet options (VRBO & AirBnB).
SITES to SEE
The City of Portland is a small but vibrant, water-front community. Downtown is comprised of the Arts District, with venues like Merrill Auditorium and State Theatre, the Government District with imposing federal architecture and the large Lincoln Park, and the Old Port, home to shopping, nightlife and great restaurants.
Portland is known for its food scene, regularly making national lists for top dining destinations. Each neighborhood of Portland from the suburban Deering in the north of the city to the quaint West End to the crowded East End is home to unique restaurants, cafes, bars and local flavors.
For those who like recreation, head to East End Beach (and make sure to check out Portland Paddle while you’re down there) or jog the loop between Portland’s beautiful Eastern Prom and Western Prom parks.
If you need an adventure, head just north out of the city to Falmouth and take a quick jaunt around Mackworth Island. This state park is home to the Mackworth School and has a trail loop circling the island–a great spot for an impromptu hike.
The annual forum doesn’t happen without our sponsors and partners.
